Compared with other castable, steel fiber reinforced castable main function is enhancing strain characteristics, and thus increases the flexibility, mechanical strength and thermal shock resistance of the casted lining. For instance, the mechanical strength and flexibility of steel fiber high alumina castable significantly higher when 5% of steel fiber is added into high alumina castable.

Steel fiber reinforced castable is also used to cast vessels , launders and components which don’t continuously contact with high temperature molten materials, for example, electric furnace tapping spout, integral gunning machine for gunning metallurgy, argon blowing gun, steel liquid desulfurization stirrer and so on. As in not continuous working conditions, temperature fluctuation is large, as well as thermal stress and mechanical stress, steel fiber can improve thermal shock resistance and mechanical vibration of the castable linings.
