Mullite Brick Description

Mullite brick  is high alumina content refractory material, which’s principle crystalline phase is mullite. Mullite brick can be divided into sintered mullite bricks and fused cast mullite bricks. Fused mullite bricks have higher crystallization than burned mullite brick and better thermal shock resistance.  Mullite bricks can also be divided into light weight mullite bricks and normal mullite bricks. Lightweight mullite bicks are usually used for high temperature insulation and heat conservation. Normal mullite bricks are used for high temperature parts contacting with fire directly. Alumina content of mullite bricks is between 65%~75%. Except for mullite phase, there are also glass phase and periclase in mullite which contains lower alumina. A little amount of corundum are found in higher alumina content ones. Mullite bricks’ high temperature property is up to alumina content and homogeneity of mullite phase and glass phase. Mullite brick refractoriness can reach higher than 1790℃, refractoriness under load is between 1600℃-1700℃.

Mullite Bricks Applications

Mullite bricks have a wide range of applications in metallurgical industry, petrochemical industry, power industry, nonferrous metal industry, glass kiln, ceramic sintering kiln and so on.

For iron industry, mullite bricks are used in hot blast furnace hot air channel hanging part and pore part, standpipe and straight tube high temperature zone, bustle pipe and temperature stable parts, torpedo tanker parts where should endure iron liquid scouring, slag line area and son on.  For glass and ceramic industry, mullite bricks are used in glass kiln main body feeding channel, regenerative chamber, clarification tank wall, in ceramic kiln to produce  saggers and kiln furniture. Mullite bricks are also used in rotary cement kiln and rotary lime kiln inner lining. The mullite bricks to be used differ when the application parts are different.
