Clay Graphite Crucible Description

Clay graphite refractory materials are sintered refractory products which’s main materials are refractory clay and graphite. Clay graphite products have good molten metal corrosion resistance, excellent thermal shock resistance and better anti-oxidation property than pure graphite products. Clay graphite crucibles takes clay clinker, binding clay and graphite as material, formed by plastic molding and sintered in coke powder at about 1400℃. Clay graphite crucible contains 30%~50% of graphite, the refractoriness of clay graphite crucible is similar to clay bricks, but thermal shock resistance and chemical corrosion resistance of clay graphite crucible is significantly better than clay bricks.

Clay graphite crucibles should have some mechanical strength, can hold the weight of loaded metal and convenient for melting and casting. Clay graphite products are mainly used as crucibles and distillation retort for steel smelting and nonferrous metal smelting, stopper head and nozzle brick for ingot casting, as well as steel ladle lining bricks. But with the development of steel making industry, especially the development of continuous casting technique, clay graphite stopper head and nozzle are gradually replaced by alumina carbon refractory materials. New type of carbon bonded graphite crucibles, i.e.  silicon carbide graphite crucibles which use pitch and tar to replace bonded clay, silicon carbide to replace the clay clinker, are gradually applied in different industries.
