High alumina brick is a kind of neutral refractory, which the alumina oxide content is above 48%. It is made of alumina or other material with high content of alumina, mold and burn. It has the characteristics of high thermal stability, the refractoriness is above 1770℃. Good slag resistance, can be used in the construction of steelmaking furnace, glass furnace and rotary cement kiln.

This article will introduce the properties and applications of high alumina brick as follows:

Properties of High Alumina Bricks

  1. Refractoriness

The refractoriness of high alumina brick is higher than the clay brick and semi-silica brick, which can reach to 1750~1790℃, belong to high-grade refractory.

  1. Refractoriness under load

Owing to the high content alumina oxide in high alumina products with less impurities, the formation of fusible glass body is small, so the refractoriness under load is higher than the clay brick, but owing to the mullite crystal don’t form net structure, so the refractoriness under load is not higher than the silica brick.

  1. Slag Resistance

There are more AL2O3 in high alumina, on the verge of neutral refractory, can resist to the corrosive of acid slag and basic slag, because it consists of SiO2, so the ability of basic resistance is weaker than the acid resistance.

Application of High Alumina Bricks

The high alumina bricks are mainly used in masonry in blast furnace, hot blast furnace, electric furnace roof, blast furnace, reflecting furnace, lining of rotary kiln. In addition, high alumina brick are widely used in open hearth furnace lattice brick, plug used in casting system, nozzle brick, etc. But the price of high alumina brick is higher than the clay brick, so we do not need high alumina brick when the clay brick can satisfy the demand.
