Refractory Castable Description
Refractory castable is a kind of refractory material mixture composed of refractory aggregate, binder and additives and can be applied to construction by casting method. Different from other unshaped refractory material, this kind of castable refractory need sometime to coagulate and harden, so after casting, certain time is needed for demoulding and appropriate time of natural maintenance is required before heating and using.
The production craft of refractory castables are relatively simple in RS refractory castable manufacturer, raw materials such as aggregate and powder, binder and additive, are proportionally prepared and adequately mixed in production. During application, quantitative water is added to make mud like material with certain thixotropy or self flow property, and casting work can be carried out.
Refractory Castables Grade Classification
Refractory Castable Grade by themselves can be divided into vibration castable and self flow castable according to workability. Vibration castable is mud-like thixotropy material, is a kind of Bingham body material which has certain degree of yield value. When applied to construction, external vibration force is required to conquer yield stress and make the material flow and fill the mould, so vibration castable is also called thixotropy castable.
Self flow castable is a kind of Bingham body material with very low yield value. Self flow castable can automatically flow and fill mould without external force. It is convenient to be pumped by slurry pump, is also called pump grouting castable. Meanwhile, self flow castable can be applied by gunning method, so is called gunning castable.
According to bulk density of aggregate, refractory castable can be classified into heavy castable or pyknotic castable, which’s bulk density is higher than 2.0g/cm3, mid-heavy castable, which’s bulk density is between 1.0~2.0g/cm3 , and lightweight castable, which’s bulk density is between 0.4~1.0g/cm3.
In respect of binder property and bonding mechanism, refractory castable can be divided into hydrous binding castable (calcium aluminate cement and silicate cement bonded castable), chemical bonded castable (phosphate, sodium and potassium silicate bonded castable), agglomeration bonded castable ( SiO2, Al2O3 micro powder bound castable), hydration-agglomeration bonded castable ( calcium aluminate cement and SiO2 micro powder bonded castable).
In terms of aggregate chemical composition and property, refractory castable can be divided into clay castable, high alumina castable, silica castable, magnesia castable, alumina magnesia castable, magnesia chrome castable, magnesia zircon castable, silicon carbide castable and so on. On basis of aggregate’s principal crystalline phase, refractory castable can be divided into mullite castable, corundum castable, zircon corundum castable, zircon mullite castable, etc. In accordance with oxides and non-oxides composite naming method, refractory castable can be divided into Al2O3-SiC castable, Al2O3-SiC-C castable, Steel fiber reinforced castable, etc. But generally, to identify the characteristics, castable is named with the combination of binder name and aggregate name, for example, calcium aluminate cement bonded corundum castable, phosphate bonded high alumina castable.
