Steel ladles can be divided into mould casting ladles and continuous casting ladles. For ordinary steel ladles, continuous casting ladles account for more than 92%, while mould casting ladles only account for less than 8%. Mould casting ladles load steel liquid directly to casting working shop and casts into steel ingots.
Selection of Steel Ladle Refractories
Earlier, clay fire bricks and high alumina bricks are usually used as ladle refractories lining bricks. But with the improvement of steel quality and steel species, high alumina bricks and clay fire bricks can no longer meet the production requirement. They are replaced by alumina magnesia castable cast integral ladles and alumina magnesia carbon bricks built ladles.
Electric Furnace Mould Casting Ladle Refractories
Electric furnace steeling smelting speed is relatively slow, steel ladles are not in continuous operation, steel ladle refractories linings’ temperature fluctuation is very large, so there are higher requirements on ladle linings’ thermal shock caused the crack and spalling. Alumina magnesia carbon bricks which have good thermal shock resistance are usually used for ladle linings. The service life is usually higher than 60 times. As carbon-containing bricks have high thermal conductivity, easy to diffuse heat and cause ladle temperature drop, so permanent layer should use refractory material that has good thermal preservation property.

Converter Mould Casting Ladle Refractories
Converter steel smelting speed is quicker, especially small converter for construction steel production, steel liquid supply is sufficient, the ladles turnover period is shorter, ladle lining’s temperature drop is smaller. So thermal shock is not very strong, casted integral ladle refractories are not easy to crack or spall. Castables used for integral casted ladle refractories are water glass binding alumina magnesia castable, bauxite magnesia castable, bauxite spinel castable, silicon micro powder binding high alumina castable, etc.
